Ceramics
Sri Lanka produces attractive porcelain decorated with various designs, some of which are hand-painted or engraved. Ranging from tea sets to decorative ceramic elephants, these items make good souvenirs.

Handicrafts
Hand-carved masks and batik are found for sale in handicraft outlets all over the island, whereas lacework and metalware are available only in specific areas. Sri Lanka is also a great place to find stylish craftwork with a modern twist, particularly in Colombo’s upmarket boutiques.

Palmyra Products
Jaffna is a great place to buy baskets, wallets and bags woven from palmyra leaves. The markets have a wide selection of products –remember to bargain.

Ayurvedic Products
Ayurvedic products can be found for sale all over Sri Lanka. One of the most popular items is Siddhalepa Balm, which can be picked up in supermarkets and is used for headaches as well as general aches. Visitors can try Spa’s which are located all over the island for scented candles, essential oils,beauty products and gift sets.

Textiles
Western-style clothing at reasonable prices is widely available in Colombo. Smaller shops found in markets throughout the country are the best places for purchasing traditional attire such as saris.

Spices
All traditional spices such as cinnamon, turmeric, cumin and chilli powder are available at spice gardens. However, supermarkets offer these at more reasonable prices. Visitors purchasing from town markets may have to bargain over the price.

Gems and Jewellery
Sri Lanka is famous for its moonstones, blue sapphires, rubies, cat’s eyes and zircons.It is possible to buy gemstones, or gold and silver jewellery set with gems. Kandyan jewellery has more intricate filigree and is usually available in silver.
